{C4D} How to make the Skrillex logo.
#1
[COLOR="MediumTurquoise"]
THIS is the logo that we will be recreating. It might not be picture perfect, but we're going to try to make it look as much like it as possible. Here goes nothing!

What you need:

1. Photoshop,
2. Cinema 4D,
3. The picture linked above,
4. General knowledge of materials used in Cinema 4D.

This is the "final outcome" of what we will be creating:

First thing's first. Open up Photoshop, along with the picture provided of the ORIGINAL Skrillex logo. Zoom in as much as you need to, and pull out your Pen tool.

This is what it should look like:

Use the pen tool, and click on the corner of the S, it doesn't matter which corner, but that will be the start/end of the pen tool for that letter. Outline the whole letter, and make sure to end the pen tool where you started it. I would post a picture, but the lines are too small for you to see.

After you have outlined each of the 8 letters with the pen tool, go to File > Export > Paths to Illustrator, and save it as a Work Path.

It will save it as a .ai file, which is what it needs to be saved as. Save it somewhere you know you'll remember where it's at, and open up Cinema 4D.

In Cinema 4D, go to File > Open > And open the Skrillex logo .ai file. A pop up will appear, just press "Okay."

The file will open, and it will look kind of weird, yet cool, at the same time. You'll notice that the letters are just splines, in which we need to make three-dimensional.

To make the letters 3D, we need to bring in some Extrude NURBS. Go into the HyperNurbs drop-down menu and click on "Extrude NURBS."

Go into the palette and duplicate the NURBS 7 times, so your palette looks a little like this:

Click and drag each of those "paths" to become a child of the Extrude NURBS, so it makes the letters look three dimensional. After you have done that, the letters should look like this:

Now, it's time to add color. I had minimized the Extrude NURBS layer, and renamed them to depict which one is for which letter, like so:

So, the main point of the materials being used is, you want it to be a little bit glossy, reflective, and most importantly, BLACK.

Set the color to pure black, take off the specular, and add these settings to the reflection tab:

Click and drag the material onto each of the letters, without coloring the I, L, and the L. Those are going to be red.

Create a new material, make the color pure red, drag the cursor to the top right of the color palette, set the luminance for the same color, with these reflective settings:

Click and drag those to the ILL in Skrillex, creating a really cool looking logo, for what we've done so far. To see what you've done so far, press CTRL + R to render out your work. You won't be able to see the SKR EX, because we have not yet added a light source.

Create a new material, set the color to a light grey, with a 50% reflection, take off the specular, click and drag onto each letter TWICE, excluding the ILL, it will look something like this, on the palette:

Click on the first grey material on the palette, and you will see this setting at the bottom:

Click on the box, and put "R1" in it. Click on the second grey material for that letter, but set that one to "R2". Repeat it for each of the letters until they turn black again.

Click on an empty space on the palette (Layers tab) and drag to select all of the letters.

On the bottom, go to the "caps" tab,

And set them to "fillet cap," each with a radius of 1 cm.

I will not be adding the back plating into this tutorial, because it's kind of hard, and I haven't mastered it myself. I will add show you about the light source, and the render settings, and you can figure out the background yourself, at another time. Big Grin

For the light source, create a plane, and set the width and length to an ungodly number (such as 5000000000, or something.)

Go to the light object tab, and create a light.

Click and drag the light so that it is placed in front, above, and to the left of the logo. Make sure to set the shadow to a Shadow Maps (Soft):

Add a spot light, by going to the light object tab and choosing "Spotlight" this time, and rotate it to a -90 degree angle, drag it above the Skrillex logo, and test out the different settings and see which one fits your liking.

For the render settings, I use 1280x1024 render size, because that's how big my screen resolution is. 1280 x 1024 is a good size to use, unless you want a huge picture. xD

For the additional effects, I use Ambient Occlusion, Global Illumination, and the Sharpen effect set at 10%.

Position the camera the way you want your image to look, and then render out your image!

Here's what I got for an outcome:

Hope you enjoyed it, followed it well, and I'd like to see some outcomes of those of you who will actually be willing to try this! Cookies and karma for the time spent on this tutorial, haha!

Thanks!
